MaryAnn McGovern and Dancers is a Contemporary Dance Theater ensemble that creates work with a social conscience and a commitment to collaborative experimentation.  The company has roots in Chicago and Seattle, and is now settling into its new home, the San Francisco Bay Area.

Residencies and commissioned festivals include Seattle’s Bridge Project and BOOST Dance Festival and Chicago’s Open Space Project and Fresh Dances Festival.  The Company has presented four full-length concerts, and guest choreographer Peter Carpenter created Rituals of Abundance for Lean Times #3: Delicate Extraction  for the company in 2011.

MaryAnn is interested in democratic process, movement based in somatic practices, site-specific work, and community involvement in her work.  Her 2012 piece, SPRAWL, which employed a large community cast and addressed the societal and environmental repercussions of suburbanization, toured from Seattle to Chicago and received critical acclaim in both cities.  Her most recent Recipes for Polarity series addresses political polarization and encourages civil discourse.

She is an M.F.A. Candidate in Dance and Choreography at Mills College in Oakland, CA, a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst through Integrated Movement Studies, and received her B.A. in Dance from Columbia College Chicago.
